A two-step process, investment casting, produces small, complex shapes. Most castings, especially large ones, are made in sand molds. Permanent metal molds are used to make many small, simple parts; shell molding gives greater accuracy for a large volume of semi precision parts. Molten silver is poured into the cavity and allowed to solidify. Sand, mixed with a binder to hold it together, is pressed around a wooden pattern that leaves a cavity in the sand. Wax or plastic replicas of the parts are molded in accurate metal molds. Top of the line casting equipments are utilized to produce the silver jewellery. When the whole mold is heated, the replica melts, leaving behind a cavity into which silver is poured. Green tourmaline is believed to have the power to help balance men's mental, emotional, and physical attributes as well. It is that man that you see walking down the street that has all the confidence in the world about himself but not to the extent that he seems snobby or all about himself. How could it be that a particular gemstone, green tourmaline, has the power to improve a man's sexual energy? Green tourmaline is said to be the perfect type of gem to balance out a man's masculine and feminine aspects. Firstly we talked about the cut of the stone. Now finding a good quality bright green tourmaline with this cut is not impossible to find but can be tricky so we decided that custom cutting was the way forward. We custom cut the green tourmaline from a larger cushion stone to create the look. We combined the chequer board facetted cut on top but with a more square proportioned shape rather than oval. The lapidaries squared up the proportions and then facetted the top of the stone. This creating a square cushion shape with a facetted top! Donna felt a straight sided square stone would be a little harsh so decided that she would like to have the stone with softened corners. The initial stone was 1.72cts and ended up at 1.05ct. After being cut gemstone it is difficult. We searched for a green tourmaline of the right colour that could be cut to shape. The twist ring is simple in style holds the tourmaline for a modern design. |
